RE: Dealer going out of business. Do you pick up your trailer?
My situaton was that the stealership was being sold when I done my deal. What a mix up, and is is still so after three years. I am taking my tt in there tomorrow for warranty work, and I am apprehensive at best. I hate lawyers, but if I get the run around tomorrow, somebodys ass is going to fry!
Do not let these freaks take your money unless they give you service in return. My experience, is most will do a good job. But some will wreak you like a pile of junk!
RE: ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - NEW DOMETIC RECALL
Oh by the way, has anyone had their refridgerator fixed, and then experienced problems after the fix? Sometimes band-aid fixes, cause more problems that they are worth.
RE: ATTENTION ALL MEMBERS - NEW DOMETIC RECALL
So of course, my Dometic refer is in the recall. I looked it up on the recall page, but I also comfirmed Friday, with a telephone call. I also called my dealer to make sure they were one of the Dometic service centers, which Dometic had verified earlier. Wow did I get a run around for a short time!
In my call, to my dealer's service department, I asked if they did Dometic refridgerater recall work. The responce was, why I thought mine was defective? I explained, that my model and serial no's matched the recall. He asked if I had any problems with my refer. I responded, like you mean my TT burning down and killing me, my wife and grandkids? Then he really got defensive. So that call ended by me telling him I would contact Dometic, but I asked if he wanted my phone No. just incase I could get the TT in for the fix. He took the number. During my call (right after I hung up from idiot dealer) I got a tone indicating someone was trying to call. Caller ID indicated it was my dealer. I finished my complaint to Dometic, and called the dealer back. Well long story short, my ex-dealer is a subsiderary of a national corperate camping stealership. I now have a new dealer, who will be sending a service man out to my TT tomorrow morning. If he verifies that the Dometic refer is on the recall, he will fix it free of charge. I might tip the serviceman though!
RE: Freak accident
My neighbor had his TT parked in the street last month and it got side swiped, by something fairley large, because the street side was totally wreaked clear up to the roof. He had good spirit about it though, and just said, he was wanting a new one anyway!
RE: Unleashed dogs! in Camp Grounds
What's with you people with these dogs in campgrounds without being on a leash. Went to Granitehill CG this weekend and we saw at least a dozen or more people letting their dogs run loose in the CG. and several letting their little dogs******and not clean it up. The owners just looked around making sure no one was really looking and then walk off trying to get their little mutts to follow them and many didn't. At one point a guy with a large Lab mix had to retrieve his dog because it was attacking a little dog that was on a tie out. He was bragging about how his dog was so obedient and would not hurt anyone. wrong! I know the campground staff has better things to do then to patrol the grounds and making you careless people put your dog on a leash or tie out. I bet the first time I would let my service dog who is a Rotty ! run free everyone would be up in arms to get me tossed. I was so tempted to cut him loose, but then again I am a responsible dog owner. I have a good Idea, I'm going to start taking pictures of the offenders and their rigs license number and turn them into animal control, hmmm can I be that mean, yes, because every time you let that little dog run free I have to put my Rotty in, because If your little dog gets to close I have no Idea what the animals will do! and I will NOT put my service dog down because of your stupidity and carelessness. As I was dumping my tanks I happened to turn around and saw the guy with the Lab running loose again. Drago, my Rotty was in the truck and we had the windows down because of the heat I yelled over to DW to put the windows up because here comes that dog again!I turned to the guy and told him there are leash laws in the state of PA. He said "oh I will just go over here", he never contained his dog. DW went into the office and scolded them about allowing these people to let their animals run free.
By the way the old guy was told several times about his loose dog over the week end.
Your little ****zu ,Poodle or Pomeranian is not cute running around a CG free THEY ARE NOT UNDER YOUR CONTROL!!.People please put them on a leash cause there may be some other camper with a pissed off unleashed Pitbull just waiting to eat a poodle for lunch. or even worse a small child not knowing how to deal with the toy dog and end up getting bit or mauled! by your "cute" dogs.
Before you blast me about me Rotty, he is not out around other dogs much he does get along with some dogs but I WILL NOT take the chance he will get along with all dogs that come near him. I do know he does not like Poodles, he is ok with a few dogs as long as i enter-act with them first, and he sees that I'm safe with them
I couldn't agree with you more. We take our 2 dogs, 1 dobie, 1 weim, and it's always the loose dogs we have trouble with. I'll be walking my dog past "someones" campsite, when "peppy" comes running over, (of the leash) and starts to growl and snap at me and my dobie. Well what do you think happens next? My dobie is TRAINED to protect my wife and I, and he DID his job. (will not disclose facts on here).
The problem is irresponsible people. They think just because they are on vacation, they do not have to worry about anything... dogs, kids, out of control fires, noise, picking up after themselves. We see it all the time. Especially the BIG holiday weekends. They are the worst. That's why we stay home when those "yahoos" are out.
Bottom line, BE RESPONSIBLE for your pets, kids, property. Or the results WILL cost you.
Like someone else said in this thread about kids. I love kids. We have two of our own. What we don't love is the parents who just don't care where they are, what they're doing, and if they can get hurt.
Hopefully people will be more responsible, but we don't have much hope, so we watch out for the "other guy".
I could not agree with you more, however I had the exact opposite happen to me. I have a Golden Retriever, and a Yorkie. I never let them off leash in a campground. I take them out running every day.
Now you have to understand that laws here in Nevada are much different than eastern states and California. Here we have right to carry (weapons, and concealed weapons permit laws) of both which I am in compliance with.
I had the golden and the yorkie on leash outside, and I stepped into the tt to grab a glass of water. I heard the yorkie growl, and I always look out when that happens. A Dobie running free had the yorkie it its jaws. The dobie did not survive. My wifes yorkie did after 6000 bucks of vet bills.
I found the dobie owner, and sued him. I just won enough to cover the vet bills, but now we call our yorkie the dorkie yorkie, as it is blind!
Folks I am telling you, here in Nevada you better keep your dogs under control, or suffer the demise you so richly deserve!
RE: Are they afraid of the dark?
When my wife and I decided to buy the car of my dreams a couple of years ago (an 06 Mustang GT Roush) we just never parked it in public parking lots. Well, one week I was having some work done on the Pick-em-up-truck, and we hadn't bought the Hyundai yet. So we went grocery shopping in the Mustang. We parked it clear out in the back forty of the parking lot. There wasn't a car within 100 yards of the Stang. When we came out my heart sank. There was a Suburban, and an old piece of junk caddy parked on either side of the Mustang. And low and behold two door dings. My brain almost popped out of my head. My wife almost had to tie me up to keep me from baseball batting both rigs. And believe you me, I keep a baseball bat in my rigs here in Las Vegas.
As far as camping, I love and do boondock most of the time. I feel cramped in organized campgrounds.
RE: small light weight tt
We boondock a lot in our 18' Pioneer. 3600 lbs dry with dual 30 lb propane tanks and dual Trojan batteries and an air conditioner. I weighed the trailer full of water, propane, food, and our normal camping stuff, and we were pulling 5400 lbs. Plus I had another 275lbs in the bed of the truck. I like our tt a lot, but for boondocking, the lighter the better. And another thing to consider is your clearance to the ground. Our Pioneer has a high stance which is good for going off paved roads. But it is quite high so probably cuts through the air on the highway like a 8'X10' brick. Many have pros and cons. You just have to weigh them all out and pick what fits your bill the best.
RE: Camp Fire Etiquette???
I usually take my extra wood home. That stuff is getting almost expensive as gas! Oh by the way, if any of you would like to leave behind your unused generator gas, I would be more than happy to take that! :)
RE: Campers Beware
Thanks for the heads up. Geez now I have something more to worry about. Just kidding!
But here in Las Vegas an idiot was electrocuted trying to pull copper wire out of a hot lit lamp post. It seems nobody had any symphony for him. :B
RE: 80% Rule Question
This whole issue is dependent on the common sense rule. I recently saw two non common sense folks, pulling these.
1. An older Nissan (the small one) pulling a two horse trailer, with TWO horses in it. The trailer and load, I am sure weighed twice that of the puny truck!
2. Just yesterday out camping. I was getting ready to leave a camp ground. A Ford Sport Trac pulled in and asked if I was leaving. :S
I kid you not, he was pulling, or tying to pull a 27' toy hauler. The sport trac sagged to where the hitch and bumper was about 1 1/2 inch off the ground. The trailer sagged so the ball hitch was about 7 inches from the ground.
I was leaving the spot, but I figured this guy was such a moron, I answered "nope just getting here!"
RE: Electric Tongue Jack
I took my UltraFab off today. There was a washer and ground up gears and grease in the bottom of the tube. I was hammered.
I won't even bother with this jack (trash) I will find a good one next time!
RE: Now I've heard it all!
In todays world, people are rude. They only think of themselves. They do not care if you are alive or dead. It is all about me, me, me, me, me, me.
However, we do not have to take the cr@9.
I have been more than willing to walk over to a loud music campground with my S&W 40 strapped in plain site, and ask politly if the music could be turned down a notch or two. I almost never get any flack.
People, unless we take back our rights, no one will!

RE: Trailer tire pressure
If the tires are cold, or not driven more than say a mile or so, I would bring them up to max pressure or maybe one or two pounds lower. Never higher. If they are hot, never let air out to your max, because they will be low. My understanding is, RV tires build heat like crazy if they are low, and could self destruct.
RE: Portable BBq
I would say check out camping world. They have a few that look like the Brinkman, but a a little less money. A friend of mine has a Coleman tailgaiter, and it is way nice. Me I have a cheap 20 dollar grill that I hook up to my outside barbeque outlet. Works fine. When it dies I will get a good Coleman.
RE: Electric Tongue Jack
Ya know, I also got to thinking.(scary huh) Maybe the best way to go would be a GOOD manual jack. I suspect the manufacturers put the cheapest jack possible on their trailers. The problem I had with my manual jack was it took 50 to 100 turns to get it up, then back down, then up at the campground, then down, then up and down, sheesh, I should have had Arnie arms!
But my question is this. Is there a good manual jack made with good gearing, to where a person can make maybe ten or twenty turns to get it up and back down or what ever?
RE: Electric Tongue Jack
I am a little leary of Ultra-Fab right now. I dropped my TT off at storage yesterday, and the gears stripped on my UF 3000. Trailer tonge weight of 550. I have had the jack for one year. I will be taking it off in a day or two and I am going to send it in a see what they will do. I have been really careful with mine, and never reversed it during a cycle, and have always kept it dry. I had to use my truck jack to get my trailer off, and then every piece of chalking and wood I had to set it back down. What a pain. Thank heavens I still have my old manual tonge jack. :)
RE: truck tires do i need 10ply?
I have Goodyear 10 plies. They do give a harsher ride but here is what I have done, with the blessing of not only the tire store, but several other folks.
When towing I pump the tires up to 65 lbs. Unfortunately I have to drive the truck as my sight see vehicle after I set up camp. The ride is very harsh. When I get home and do not plan on camping for more than five days, I let the air pressure down to about 45 lbs. Then I still have a safe tire, but one that rides good also.
RE: oooops, I forgot to bring...
I have packed for years and do not usually forget anything ...until this last Nov when we headed out for our winter stay in TX. I forgot the cat, of all things! Had to backtrack over 200 miles one way - in the dark, in the rain on an unfamiliar interstate!! Won't do that again!!!
Our last trip one month ago we went for four days. We took the dogs but left the cat with our son who is home on leave. I filled the water tank, but my wife forgot to fill the cat feeder. Cat ran out of food but there was a bag of cat food on the counter. We got home and there was cat food all over the place. We asked the dear son what he thought with the cat food all over the utility room, he said " I was wondering, why you let the cat get its own food!?" Duh!
